Piecemaker Quilts displayed at the American Indian Community House

Photographs of two quilts that were created by the Piecemakers to be donated to the Akwesasne Freedom School Quilt Auction.

In 2001, The American Indian Community House Gallery in NYC hosted a Native American Quilt Exhibit. The Piecemakers were invited to display two of their quilts even though not all of the Piecemaker quilters were Native. However, the quilts were created and donated to the AFS Annual Quilt Auction where they were auctioned off to help raise monies for the school and to show that there are all kinds of people who believe in what the school is doing.

The AFS teaches their Mohawk students all of the subjects they need to know to succeed in today's world, but within a total Mohawk Language Immersion Program.  The students are taught to be proud of who they are and learn Mohawk traditions and history.
